It's official: 2013 is definitely the year of the baby bump! Former American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi announced that she and her husband Mike McCuddy are expecting a baby boy in the coming weeks via a surrogate.
Kara has struggled with fertility issues since their marriage in 2009, going through three separate rounds of IVF treatments unsuccessfully. Explaining her reason for pursuing a surrogate, she said, "We made a personal decision to try with a surrogate. I asked someone we knew, a friend. And on the first try, it worked. We’re praying for our surrogate, that she gets through this and that it’s as easy on her as it can possibly be, because she’s been a gem throughout the whole process. I’ve got two people on my mind: her and the baby. She’s given us this incredible gift."
In her memoir A Helluva High Note, Kara shared her fertility struggles while on Idol. "I wanted a child and there was no way I could get pregnant under the stress of eighteen-hour work days and live TV. Leaving was painful and there will always be a part of me that wanted to stay. But my desire to be in control of my destiny was larger than my need to be a household name."
But now, the blushing mama-to-be told People, "We are eagerly awaiting the healthy and happy birth of our son Greyson James Carroll McCuddy." Wow — loving the name. Greyson is trendy and stylish, but definitely feels retro, classic and vintage. Kudos to mom and dad for picking out quite the moniker!
We're so, so, so excited for the parents-to-be and we wish that they, along with their surrogate, are able to enjoy the weeks leading up to the birth of their baby boy! We can't wait to see pictures!
