Finding Out

By the end of last week, I was tired of week-long nausea and vomiting. Somehow I was oblivious to certain key elements of my "condition" that were blaring other women in the face. The first few days though were nothing but nausea. I figured it was bad food, or maybe a bug. Then I became overly sensitive to smells (particularly offensive odors), sensitivity in places on my body, tiredness/fatigue (although I was thinking that was a result of several days of nausea and lack of hunger). Finally, my husband and I decided to try one of those home pregnancy tests. It was immediately positive. After reading "So you think you're pregnant?" articles listing symptoms, I realized I had just about every single one of them! (ick!) Today I went to a small pregnancy clinic. They aren't a medical facility, but they do pregnancy tests and give out info & support. According to them I am definitely pregnant. She isn't a doctor, so instead had a chart that calculates from my last menstrual date. According to that thing, I should be about 6 weeks along. My estimated due date is April 10, 2011. We are very excited by this news! I already have a million things on three different gift registries! LOL It's way too early to know if it's a boy or girl. (Only God knows right now! =) ) Regardless, we already have a clear idea of how we want to decorate. We've talked about how we would raise our kids long before we started thinking of having any. Although, we weren't planning this baby.. at least not to even start getting pregnant until next year! But God knows what he's doing. This little baby has a purpose to his/her life. Can't wait to watch as he/she grows into that purpose! =) (Written back in the end of August 2010. Today is Dec 23, 2010 and I'm about 25 weeks and 6 days preggo now.)

Tobias Liam is here!

My Bump turned out to be a BOY!! Tobias Liam born on 4/1/11 at 7:44PM. He weighed 7lbs 6oz and was 19.5" long. He was born with a partial cleft lip. Basically, all the muscle and skin he needs for his lip is there, it's just that there's a gap in his upper lip. it's a very minor case. Sometimes it is so severe, there is a large gap in the lip extending all the way up into a nostril. A cleft palate is where the gaps are on the inside of the mouth, not just the lip. In the most severe cases, eating is extremely difficult, and breathing is affected. My son's only affected his lip and left nostril. Although the gap did not go all the way up, it still was deforming the shape of his left nostril. Wednesday, June 29th, 2011 Tobias underwent duel surgeries to fix his cleft lip and get his circumsicion. It's a lot of pain all at once, but it will heal mostly all at once too. He's doing great. He looks so different though. Before he looked just like me as a baby, but now that his lip is fixed, he doesn't look like me at all anymore. Rather, he's very much a spitting image of his daddy as a baby. It's been two days and he's healed up so much already! The first time he woke up in the hospital after his surgeries he was screaming in so much pain, til the nurse finally gave him morphine. I was in tears hearing him scream and hurt so badly. He's increasingly happier and in less pain as each day goes by now. He no longer screams from pain during diaper changes. In fact, he's back to his normal playful self, wanting to kick and "dance" in his way. =) I'm so grateful for his already speedy recovery. I was sure that he'd be inconsolable for days on end. He' not allowed to have a pacifier for 6 weeks, and has to wear these velcro casts on his arms to prevent him from rubbing his face with his hands and messing up his stitches. We take the cast things off when we hold him (which is the only way we can soothe his cries right now. No paci's!) He stayed overnight at the hospital and we took him home Thursday morning. I'm sure he's not over the pain yet. I've been consistant with his meds. I love this little man! I'm so impressed with how srong he's been. He's such a little trooper!
