Our Journey
My husband (Jeff) and I got married June 13, 2009 and went off birth control in July 2009 TTC. Jeff is now 41 and I am 35 (as of spring 2013). As this is our first marriage and we have no children, we wanted to get going asap. We live in the Chicago suburbs and are "home bodies" for the most part. But we enjoy going out to eat, hanging with friends and occasionally traveling. I used to work in advertising but before we got married, due to stress and wanting to move to be with DH, I quit. I've since worked in an administrative job but got laid off right when we started TTC so currently I'm working in retail management for their IF insurance. Jeff has a law degree and currently works for an insurance company in the workers comp division. We have been diagnosed with MFI due to low-ish count and low motility. We tried vitamins (Fertility Blend for Men) and waited the three months for a second SA. His count went from 19 million to 38 million! His Motility went from 16% to 43% - WOOHOO! But RE still believes we need IUIs (and not after almost four years that much is clear). After waiting for six months, we tried twice with clomid/IUI=BFN. Waited another eight month to afford another IUI, that time with injects. Due to a medical allergic reaction my husband had been on steroids 90 days prior to IUI - turns out it wasn't long enough as it had killed all of his sperm and our IUI was canceled because in the post wash there was only two living sperm. Wait three more months, do it again for yet another BFN. Wait ANOTHER eight months to afford more treatment and did an injects IUI #4 Jan 2013 to end up with a BFP but then quickly learn it was a chemical pregnancy and miscarry. Finally got an insurance that covers some more IF - and will do IUI#5 in summer 2013, this time costing us at least one fourth of last cycle. This means we can afford treatment much more frequently AND afford IVF if needed next year.
