About The Chastains

My name is Diana. I attended Clayton College and State University and I want to teach second grade.

My husband's name is Greg. He has a bachelor's degree in political science from Georgia State University.

We met in June 2004 (when we were 18 and 20) through a mutual friend. We were engaged December 25, 2005 and married June 15, 2007.

We started trying to conceive our little one in March of 2010 and she was born December 9, 2010. We are truly blessed. And Elizabeth Nicole (Lizzie) is our favorite Christmas present.

Lizzie's Birth Story

On Wednesday (Dec. 8th) at 9:15 a.m. I had an OB appointment. I had noticed that I was more swollen, I had been having some unusual nauseous, and I had been having consistent headaches in the front of my head, PLUS I fell on Sunday even though I had no bleeding, pain, or less movement. I told the doctor all about this. I had protein in my urine and my blood pressure was elevated. So Dr. Gabriel sent me to Southern Regional. My MIL got released from jury duty and met me there. We called Hubby (who was at work) and my mom on the way and they met us there. Dr. Youngblood (first time I met the guy BTW and he had do a 'check'. Awesome.) was there and decided to induce me in triage. I was then admitted into Labor & Delivery. They put in the IV so I could get fluids and antibiotics but I was so swollen they had to dig into my arm. Then the vein wasn't good and was getting swollen so they had to dig into my hand. But since I was so swollen it was like 'digging in the dark'. The nurses put in a cervidil and said it may be a while since I was only 30% effaced and 0 cm dilated. They thought they were going to have to put more than one in but they started me on pitocin after the 12 hours (actually 13 because they gave me an hour to eat and walk around since I wasn't allowed to on the cervidil then wouldn't be able to on the pitocin). I had started having contractions on the cervidil even though they weren't showing up on the monitor. They gave me something to help me sleep that night that made me feel woozy but it was to calm my body (they gave it to me later that day but it didn't help much since I was having regular contractions at that point, although it did help me sleep in between contractions). My sister and mom stayed the night (which WON'T happen with my next baby) with Hubby and I. Although I was glad they were there because my contractions weren't showing up on the monitor so the nurses didn't think I was progressing. So my sister and Hubby pushed for the nurses to check the monitor. They came in and told me to tell them when I was having a contraction, when I was they moved the monitor. Turns out I had been having them the entire time, they were just all over the place. So the nurses decided to check me. I was 5 cm dilated. And I asked if this meant I could have an epidural (part of birth plan - don't judge. I was scared because she was my first. I plan to try all natural with my next). If my Hubby and sister hadn't pushed the issue and I hadn't asked then I wouldn't have received an epidural because by the time the anesthesiologist came and put in my epidural I was dilated to 9 cm. (The time between realizing how far along I was and actually getting the epidural was miserable. They didn't even bothering trying to monitoring me. I kept having to pee until I didn't really have to pee anymore, it was just baby. I kept begging my husband to go get the anesthesiologist that I was more important than those others girls and I think I said a few other very rude things.) So after that they put in my catheter and broke my water then the nurses checked me again and I was at 10 cm. They said all we had to do was wait for her to come down the canal! I actually fell asleep and woke myself up snoring at that point. I couldn't feel any pain. And getting the epidural was not scary at all. I could feel my contractions, I could feel her head come out but not in a painful way. My epidural was just enough so that I had an awesome birthing experience. I pushed for 45 minutes. And Dr. Gabriel, my favorite doctor, delivered her. And Hubby cut the cord. The next day is when the s**t hit the fan. My mom and MIL got upset because my husband posted a picture on Facebook while they were waiting out in the waiting area. They were mad they didn't get to come in the Delivery room (I told EVERYONE only my husband would be allowed in there). My MIL got upset that I wouldn't let her put an unwashed outfit that she bought in the gift shop on my newborn baby. They got mad because I asked everyone to wash their hands before that held her. With my next baby, no one is coming to the hospital if I can help it. They pushed them selves away by trying to steel my joy. Not happening again.
