Gastroschisis Mommy
My Husband and I were married July 9, 2010. We are expecting our first child, a boy, named Joseph Baptiste. At our 18w5d ultrasound, we found out that our son has a birth defect called Gastroschisis. This is where there is a hole in the baby's abdomen and his intestines are outside of his body. He will need to be born early and will go straight from me to the operating room for emergency surgery. His prognosis is good and the pediatric surgeons said that, best case scenario, he will be in the NICU for a month (more for any complications or delayed healing). Unfortunately, our son will not be able to eat for at least 3 weeks so he will be receiving IV fluids through a central line until his intestines heal and start working.
