Despite the introduction of the COVID-19 vaccine, face masks will likely continue to be a part of daily public life. Due to the Delta variant, cases are once again surging, and, while the vaccine is available to everyone over the age of 12, young children are not yet able to get vaccinated. Experts are still recommending that everyone—including kids who are 2 and older—wear a face mask when out in public to help curb the spread of coronavirus. But what kind of kids face mask should you look for? And where can you find them? Keep reading to learn what to consider when looking for the best face masks for kids—and check out some of the places to buy them.

What to Consider When Buying Kids Face Masks

According to CDC guidelines, everyone over the age of 2 who is not yet fully vaccinated should continue to wear face masks. For fully vaccinated folks, the CDC recommends wearing masks if you have a weakened immune system, if you’re indoors or if you’re outdoors in a crowded area.

When buying, look for a mask that has multiple layers of fabric, is breathable and washable, fits snugly and secures with ear loops or ties. Your child may not be excited to wear their mask to school, but ensuring the right fit can make them less likely to take it off. Some other tips for getting young kids to wear (and keep on) their masks? Explain why they’re necessary in simple terms and give kids some sense of control by letting them pick the mask they’re most excited to wear. But, most importantly, set a good example.

To help you with your search, we’ve rounded up some of our favorite retailers selling comfortable, affordable and, most importantly, safe face masks for kids. While wearing one may not be something your child is entirely enthusiastic about, these cute options might convince your little one to keep it on.
