May 13, 2020
Nameberry, the world’s largest website dedicated to baby names, recently issued its list of most popular baby names of 2018. From classic favorites to unique newcomers, this ultimate roundup of the trendiest monikers has it all.
Nameberry’s popular baby name list measures which names attracted the largest share of the site’s nearly 250 million page views. It’s a measure of parents’ interest in baby names and a predictor of which names will become more popular in the future. While the latest national list measures 2017 popularity, Nameberry’s list gives a more current sense of what parents are considering now.
Can’t wait to hear what topped the 2018 charts? We’ll save you the anticipation: Atticus is the top boys’ name for the second year in a row, and Olivia ranks as the most popular girls’ name for the third consecutive year. Olivia has been a favorite for a few years now, but the bigger news is that two new names have reached Nameberry’s Top 10 baby name list: Genevieve and Rose. Looking at the other popular baby girl names, it’s clear the top choices reflect the continued influence of celebrities and popular culture. Charlotte’s popularity is inspired by the young British princess, while the popularity of multicultural Amara was probably spiked by her presence as an immortal character on The Vampire Diaries, and Genevieve is a fresher replacement for the Jen-generation of names. Also, it’s fun to note that four of the top 10 girls’ names begin and end in the letter A.
