It seems like more and more celebrity mamas and public figures are standing up in the fight for breastfeeding. Big names like Gisele Bundchenand even Pope Francis have come forward voicing their support (and even sharing a shameless selfie) that show just how passionately they feel about moms nursing their babies. The latest Holly-mom to confess she's addicted** to ***breastfeeding? *Penélope Cruz**. In an interview with Allure magazine, Cruz opened up about breastfeeding her six-month-old baby girl, Luna.
She told the mag, "I'm supposed to get extra calories because breastfeeding you burn, like, an extra 500 a day. I was breastfeeding my son [Leo] 13 months, and I plan to do the same with my daughter. [Nursing] is addictive. It's hard when the day comes when you have to stop."
So, what is it about breastfeeding that's so addictive for a new mom (and a veteran mama)? We asked our moms to share what makes the experience so special to them:
"It's the bond with baby. It's so peaceful." — Sara B.*
"I love knowing that we have this time together. Before they start crawling and walking and talking. It's like they really, really need you. It's so special for us." — Hannah E.
"You're made to sustain life! What's cooler than that?" — Lesley W.
"I'm grateful for those moments at the end of a day when all the chaos has stopped and baby and I can just unwind together. That's really special for me." — Geanie T.
"It's the most natural thing for our bodies and our babies. I'm sure every mom says this, but it's really amazing to see what our bodies are capable of." — Kaila G.
"I have two toddlers and a newborn to run around after all day long. I feel so needed (not that I don't anyway, but in a different way), when I'm able to nurse our newborn son. We need each other in so many different ways and breastfeeding helps with that." — Yvette A.
"When my daughter was born, I had postpartum depression and breastfeeding was really soothing for me. I was able to calm down and baby did too. You don't get that from anybody in your life, so it's amazing when this tiny little person is able to do that for you." — Jocelyn C.
"Without a doubt, it's the connection. You spent years dreaming of this baby, nine months growing him and once he's born, you're given this beautiful gift of being able to feed him and give him the nutrients he needs. I feel like supermom!" — Lisa W.
"Breastfeeding gives baby the best chance at life possible." — Amy F.
