Mark Zuckerberg’s Latest Facebook Status Shares Emotional Road To Pregnancy
It’s not exactly like Mark Zuckerberg could share his big news anywhere else.
The Facebook creator, 31, posted a lengthy Facebook status this afternoon announcing that he and wife Priscilla Chan, 30, are expecting.
“Priscilla and I have some exciting news: we’re expecting a baby girl!” the post, accompanied by a photo of the couple and their dog, Beast, begins. Chan, a pediatrician, is proudly cradling her small bump.
Usually celebrity baby announcements leave us wanting more. But in the Facebook spirit of sharing, Zuckerberg let us in on the gender, along with other candid details: the three miscarriages Chan previously suffered.
“We want to share one experience to start. We’ve been trying to have a child for a couple of years and have had three miscarriages along the way.”
The couple is hoping to use social network as a means of making it easier to talk about such a difficult subject.
“Most people don’t discuss miscarriages because you worry your problems will distance you or reflect upon you — as if you’re defective or did something to cause this,” Zuckerberg writes. “So you struggle on your own. In today’s open and connected world, discussing these issues doesn’t distance us; it brings us together. It creates understanding and tolerance, and it gives us hope.”
And like many other public figures who struggled to start a family, the couple believes their story can empower others.
“We hope that sharing our experience will give more people the same hope we felt and will help more people feel comfortable sharing their stories as well.”
The cutest part? The Zuckerberg baby has already tossed dad a like.
“In our ultrasound, she even gave me a thumbs up “like” with her hand, so I’m already convinced she takes after me.”
