Mom's Viral Water Birth Video Shows the Moment She Meets Her Own Baby
Whether or not it’s your first pregnancy or your third, there are bound to be some labor and delivery fears keeping you up at night. But a new viral video of a water birth is proving some birth plans go off without a hitch. (Heads up: This one might be NSFW.)
Lisa Marie Sanchez Oxenham, licensed midwife and owner of Sacred Journey Midwifery, shared a video of her client’s home birth on Facebook. The clip, which is less than one minute long and has over 15 million views, shows mom-to-be Audra and her partner delivering their second baby via water birth.
“A midwife’s role is fluid, providing whatever is necessary for each individual birthing experience, although almost always that role is simply to offer the gift of quiet presence,” Oxenham captions the video.
In the video, Audra and her partner are sitting in a birthing tub, being coached by Oxenham. “I’ll take that so you can have your hands free,” Oxenham says, referring to a mirror the mom-to-be was holding to check on the status of baby’s crowning. Audra places her hands beneath her, breaths heavily and pulls a baby boy from the water—all within 30 seconds.
Oxenham admits that the boy’s head had crowned three minutes prior to filming the video. “[Audra] had a normal labor with pressure waves that increased in intensity. She had the normal transition time and difficult time settling into that, which is also normal,” she adds.
It’s clear from the post’s comments that moms and moms-to-be were moved by the video.
“Oh my gosh! I want to do this if I can for the next one,” writes one user.
“Such a rockstar, and such an incredibly beautiful experience,” writes another.
