This Mom Is Equally Proud of Her Baby and Her Stretch Marks

"Our bodies change and gain perfect imperfections that we should be celebrating, not shaming."

As an artist and stylist, Abagail Wedlake knows a thing or two about looking picture-perfect. Recently, the new mom has been using Instagram to help redefine what 'picture-perfect' means, taking photos of her baby girl next to her stretch mark-covered belly.

By showcasing not only baby Aubrey's growth, but also the changes of her own postpartum body, Wedlake is furthering her mission to celebrate mom and baby after birth.

"Let us make pregnancy an occasion when we appreciate our female bodies during and after, not hide them," a caption reads, adding on another post, "Our bodies change and gain perfect imperfections that we should be celebrating, not shaming."

In Wedlake's mind, each stretch mark is representative of one of Aubrey's milestones. Without these marks, there would be no Aubrey.

"A mark for every breath you took, every blink, every sleepy yawn. One for every time you sucked your thumb and slept in perfect darkness. One for every dream you dreamt. It was your home and where I grew to love you. I've earned my stripes and am embracing them more and more everyday. Postpartum bodies are different but show the beauty of being given the chance to bring life into this world."

It soounds like Wedlake is echoing the message of Sports Illustrated model Robyn Lawley, whose viral Facebook post celebrated her "badass tiger stripes."

We're thankful these ladies are stepping up to offer new moms a fresh perspective. Remember, you earned those tiger stripes.
