NICU Dresses Preemies as Presents to Spread Holiday Cheer

The best things come in small packages. To brighten the spirits of preemie parents spending the holiday season in the NICU, one hospital dressed each of the babies up as gifts.

If this looks somewhat familiar, it’s because this same NICU staff has helped preemies play dress up before. The folks at Saint Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City crafted some scary adorable Halloween costumes for preemies in the NICU this fall, including several superhero getups.

This time around, St. Luke’s teamed up with the March of Dimes to dress 31 preemies in their holiday finest, turning each baby into a colorful gift for Christmas, Hanukkah or Kwanzaa. The felt costumes were designed to be placed over the babies without interfering with any tubes or wires.

The best part? While these babies may not be home for the holidays, they didn’t miss out on a visit from Santa. Professional photographers—all of whom once had a baby in the NICU—captured it all.
