No More Censoring Breastfeeding Pictures On Facebook!

PUBLISHED ON 06/16/2014

Breastfeeding moms no longer have to worry that Facebook will take down any breastfeeding pics uploaded to the site. Due in part to a social media campaign dubbed “ #FreeTheNipple” by women worldwide, Facebook has altered their policy in regards to nudity. Before, exposed nipples or breasts were immediately taken down from pages. Now, according to a spokesperson, photos of nursing mothers are allowed even if the breast is exposed.

Facebook officials say that breastfeeding photos were never technically banned, though most of the time pictures that explicitly showed a nipple were reported and removed. With a recently updated, more deliberately specific section on the help page of the site, any possible ambiguity has been eliminated: "We agree that breastfeeding is natural and beautiful and we're glad to know that it's important for mothers to share their experiences with others on Facebook. The vast majority of these photos are compliant with our policies."

That’s a win for nursing mothers! Now you can feel free to show the world your proud mama moments on social media, just like celebs Natalia Vodianova and  Miranda Kerr have done. Breastfeeding is beautiful, not offensive. Thankfully, Facebook has recognized this important fact.

Have you ever posted a breastfeeding pic on social media?
