There are plenty of lists out there when it comes to packing your hospital bag for labor and delivery. And while there are certainly essentials every expectant parent should include, what creature comforts, sanity savers and personal touches you pack is entirely up to you. Just ask Olivia Culpo.

The former Miss Universe and first-time mom recently welcomed her daughter, Colette Annalise, with NFL star Christian McCaffrey and she brought quite the mix of essentials and a few out-of-the-box items along for the ride.

In a now-viral “what’s in my hospital bag video”, Culpo revealed her plan to bring “two large suitcases,” one of which was fully dedicated to comfort items like flickering flameless candles and a framed photo of her dog. Unsurprisingly, commenters had big feelings about her hospital haul. “A physical photo in a frame of your dog hahahah I’m dying,” one commenter joked. “Mother of 5 here, all you need is the epidural and an entire chocolate cake after, truth,” another added.

All in good fun, Culpo took to Instagram Stories after delivering her baby girl to stand by her choices and prove the haters wrong. “I got roasted a little for what I packed—but I ended up using it ALL,” she wrote. “When you’re recovering from a C-section and stuck in the hospital for 3–4+ days, having your creature comforts is no joke. Sharing in case it helps another comfort queen.”

She even snapped a photo of her darkened hospital room aglow with faux candles, writing: “Look what I still couldn’t part ways with. These really have been AMAZING post C-section," she added. "They come with a remote control. I had a C-section so I couldn’t get up to turn on or off the lights (which are horrible and fluorescent anyway). No one will ever convince me these were a bad idea—I’m sorry.”

What made it into Olivia Culpo’s hospital bag

In her suitcase dedicated to comfort items she packed:

  • Two of her favorite pillows
  • Two twin-size comforters (one for her, one for Christian)
  • Two sleep masks
  • Two mini fans
  • Aromatherapy items
  • Flameless flickering candles
  • A framed photo of her dog
  • A fluffy robe

In her other suitcase dedicated to postpartum essentials and baby care:

  • Two Frida Mom recovery kits (one for C-section, one for vaginal birth)
  • Momcozy nursing bra with pads
  • Nipple butter
  • Medela hydrogel pads and breast pump
  • Supplements, electrolytes, and lactation drink mix
  • Snack bag
  • Nice camera, headphones, chargers, and extension cords
  • Makeup, toiletries, slippers, and shower shoes
  • Comfy, nursing-friendly clothes and wide-fit shoes
  • Sound machine
  • Baby footprint and handprint kit
  • Newborn outfit, onesies, swaddle, and blanket
  • Cord and placenta collection kits

Packing for the big day can be overwhelming. Jumpstart your hospital bag packing with this list of essentials, and as Culpo reminds us, don’t feel guilty about putting your own spin on things to treat yourself.
