Woman Learns She's Expecting Triplets on Day of Husband's Wake
On the day of her husband Brian’s wake, Courtney Hill cried a combination of sad and happy tears. Earlier that day, she took a pregnancy test and learned she was expecting.
The Illinois couple had been trying for another baby before Brian, who was a retired Navy corpsman, passed away in a trucking accident in February. Courtney tells Chicago’s CBS 2 that she was able to hold Brian’s hand and tell him she was pregnant at the wake.
Two weeks later, complications sent the mom-to-be to the hospital. But after administering some tests, her doctor reported some happy—and shocking—news: she was carrying triplets.
“I’m excited to have three more smiles that remind me of him,” Courtney says, maintaining an incredibly positive outlook. “I haven’t had a chance of downtime to sit alone and think what really is happening.”
The Hill triplets are due in October. A family friend set up a Go Fund Me page for the family, full of comments from strangers offering their support and similar stories.
“I myself found out I was pregnant on the day of my husband’s funeral,” one post reads. “It was an unplanned pregnancy, but one of the best things to ever happen to me.”
“I am on the board of the Lake County Mother of Twins Club. We are extremely sorry for your loss. We are a club that meets once a month in Grayslake, IL to provide support for mom’s of multiples. Please feel free to reach out to us. We would love to help out in anyway we can,” says another.
Perhaps the most meaningful post comes from another sailor.
“I served with Brian on the USS Trepang. He was my friend and I don’t think I’ve ever met a nicer guy than Brian. I’m sure his buddy Goose was there to greet him. My sincerest condolences to his family.”
