After several smaller recalls, Blue Bell Ice Cream is voluntarily recalling all of its products. The culprit? Once again, listeria.

By now, you get it: Listeriosis usually just means food poisoning, but with pregnant women, a brush with listeria can mean premature delivery, newborn infection, miscarriage or stillbirth.

“We’re committed to doing the 100 percent right thing, and the best way to do that is to take all of our products off the market until we can be confident that they are all safe,” says Paul Kruse, Blue Bell CEO and president. The company is implementing a “test and hold” procedure in each of its manufacturing facilities, meaning products will be tested first and held for release before being distributed to retailers. Blue Bell will also be expanding its sanitary procedures.

The decision to recall all products was the result of further testing, which found half gallon containers of chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream contained the bacteria.

If you have any Blue Bell products, return them at the place of purchase for a full refund.
