Q&A: Will a Tanning Bed Affect My Breast Milk?

I want to tan, but will a tanning bed affect my breast milk? Will it impact my breastfeeding at all?

There’s no evidence that tanning has any impact on your breast milk or your breastfed baby. But be sure to avoid tanning lotion on your breasts or plan to wash it off before breastfeeding (it’s not a healthy snack for baby). And, while tanning, it’s best to keep your breasts totally covered with a towel or sports bra to prevent burned, dried-out skin and nipples. (Not fun. Trust us.)
