Prince Harry Appears in “Thomas the Tank Engine” Special on Netflix
It’s been a little over a month since Prince Harry and the Duchess of Sussex officially stepped down from their royal duties. Reportedly, the two are back in Los Angeles, where Meghan has been resuming her Hollywood career. (She recently served as the narrator for Disney’s documentary, Elephant.) Now, Prince Harry is dipping his toes in the water too, as he recently filmed the intro for Netflix’s 75th anniversary special episode for Thomas the Tank Engine titled “The Royal Engine.”
The special centers around the royals, with animated characters that portray Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Charles (shown as a young boy). There is also a new character that was created just for the special episode, the Duchess of Loughborough, voiced by actress Rosamund Pike.
“Thomas the Tank Engine has been a comforting, familiar face to so many families over the last 75 years—entertaining, educating and inspiring children on important issues through exciting stories and characters,” Harry said in a statement. “I certainly have fond memories of growing up with Thomas & Friends and being transported to new places through his adventures. I am very proud to have been asked to take part in this special episode. I wish Thomas & Friends a very happy anniversary.”
Thomas the Tank Engine was created by Rev. Wilbert Awdry 75 years ago as a bedtime story for his son, Christopher. With Harry’s own son, Archie, turning 1 this week, hopefully we’ll get additional, similar glimpses of the dad reading to his young son.
The 75th anniversary special for Thomas and Friends is available on Netflix now.
