Fight Like a Girl: ‘Game of Thrones’ Star Breastfeeds Between Battle Scenes
What do we say to the god of death? Not today…Baby has to eat.
After Sunday night’s much-anticipated episode of Game of Thrones, everyone has been buzzing about the—spoiler alert!—MVP of the episode: Arya Stark. But there’s another GoT heroine who’s working wonders in a much different way. Gemma Whelan, who plays Yara Greyjoy on the show, shared a behind-the-scenes photo leading up to the episode’s premiere, where the actress is seen taking a break from filming to nurse her baby daughter.
“Enjoy tonight’s episode guys…! Yara’s got some big news,” she teases in the caption.
The actress gave birth to her daughter back in October 2017 with husband Gerry Howell while filming for season eight of the HBO series. After fans were in a frenzy that the snapshot could potentially be a spoiler, Whelan cleared the air in the comments explaining the picture was taken after she filmed one of her scenes for the first episode of the final season.
Earlier this month, the actress appeared on Good Morning Britain to chat about filming for season eight. She revealed her newborn was on set with her the whole time and she often had to breastfeed while in costume. “I’m really sort of tied into my armor,” she says. “It’s quite difficult to get to yourself, let’s put it that way.”
That’ll definitely change the way you look at Yara during the rest of the season. No matter how badass she may be on camera, remember she’s just as badass behind the scenes too.
