Kaiona

Kaiona is a gender-neutral name with uncertain origins. It could be a variant spelling of the Hawaiian name Kainoa, which means “the namesake” and “sea of freedom.” Alternatively, Kaiona may be the name of a Hawaiian goddess, the benevolent goddess of the lost. In Hawaiian lore, she lives on Mt. Kaʻala, the highest mountain on the island of Oahu. Kaiona is deaf and blind but knows when people are lost and sends birds to act as their guides. Like their potential namesake, baby Kaiona may grow to be a bright guiding light in the lives of those close to them.
