Laryssa

Laryssa is a modern feminine name whose roots delve deep into an ancient city still lived in to this day. Inspired by the Greek Larissa, Laryssa aptly means "citadel" and refers to the town and municipality of Lárissa, capital of Thessaly. Lárissa was the seat of the aristocratic Aleuadae family, founded by Aleuas the Red, who is said to be descended from the hero Herakles himself. Larissa is also said to be the name of a nymph of the river Pineiós, named so for the river god Peneus, which runs through Lárissa.
