Lurline

Lurline is a feminine name and an English variant of Loreley and Lorelei. Germanic in origin, Lurline has the cool and mysterious meaning "murmuring rock." Said to be created from a rocky headland on the Rhine River, it's likely Lorelei was inspired by the water and nature sounds of this area, making Lurline music to the ear. Infused with operatic flair, Lurline was used by William Vincent Wallace for the titular character in his opera Lurline, who was a nymph of the Rhine River. Lurline's otherworldly appeal is made even more ethereal by its use in the Oz novels by L. Frank Baum and The Wicked Years series by Gregory Maguire. Rooted in the creation myth of the land of Oz, Lurline is the name of the pagan fairy-goddess who was believed to continuously reincarnate as the Ozma, the ruler of the land, before the Wizard came and usurped her.
