Powhatan
po(w)-ha-tan
Origin:Native American
Meaning:Waterfall
Powhatan is a boy's name of Native American origin. While its meaning is a bit uncertain, it’s believed to come from the Algonquian elements pawat, meaning “falls,” and hanne, meaning “river,” possibly creating the meaning of “waterfall.” The name refers to both the confederacy of Indigenous tribes and, most famously, Chief Powhatan. He is known for being the father of Pocahontas and the leader of his people of Tsenacomoco. This name is brimming with power and leadership skills, giving any bearer of it the confidence to last a lifetime.
