Virginie is a feminine name of Latin origin, meaning "maiden." It is a variant of Virginia, which itself was derived from the Roman names Verginius and Virginius. Queen Elizabeth I of England was known as Virginia, the "Virgin Queen," a name historians believe was bestowed upon her by English adventurer Sir Walter Raleigh. Maybe someday, baby Virginie will have a name bequeathed to her by a Sir. If, of course, that is still a thing.
