The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced a recall of 7.5 million of Zuru’s Baby Shark and Mini Baby Shark Bath Toys. Here’s what you need to know.

Why are Zuru’s Baby Shark and Mini Baby Shark Bath Toys being recalled?

According to the CPSC recall, the bath toys are being recalled due to “risk of impalement, laceration and puncture injuries to children.”

When using the recalled bath toys, particularly in a bathtub or wading pool, children can slip and fall or sit on the hard plastic top fin of the shark, posing risks of impalement, lacerations and punctures. Zuru has received 12 reports from parents that their child has fallen or sat on the full-size Baby Shark bath toy resulting in an injury. Nine of the incidents required stitches or medical attention.

How do I know if my product is affected by the recall?

This recall includes full-size Robo Alive Junior Baby Shark Sing & Swim bath toys and Mini Baby Shark Swimming bath toys. The recall affects full-size Baby Shark toys with the hard top fin only. Since March 2023, Zuru has sold a version of the full-size Baby Shark with a silicone top fin. If the top fin of your shark is softer to the touch than the body of the shark and there is a visible line separating the silicone and plastic portions of your top fin, then your top fin is silicone and is not being recalled.

What should I do if my product is recalled?

The CPSC advises parents to immediately stop using the recalled items and contact Zuru from a full refund. To receive a full refund, parents will need to disable the tail fin (by cutting it on the full-size bath toy or by bending it on the mini-size bath toy), mark the body of the shark bath toy with the word “recalled” and the unique code provided during registration for the recall, then upload a photo of the product, showing it is disabled and marked, at RecallRTR.com/BathShark.
