These Are the Top 5 Back-to-School Trends on Etsy Right Now
The 2020-2021 school year is definitely not a normal one. The coronavirus pandemic has placed parents and caregivers in the difficult position of deciding whether or not it’s safe to send kids back to school and, if not, come up with alternative solutions. One thing that has not changed, however, is back-to-school shopping. Yet, according to Etsy, the top trends definitely look a little different this year.
Today, Etsy released its back to school data for 2020, which shows how parents, students and shoppers are preparing for the unprecedented school season. Among this year’s trends are kids’ masks and accessories, teacher and school staff appreciation and at-home learning necessities. Kids’ masks and accessories
In the past three months, “face mask” has consistently been a top search on Etsy. In fact, the data found that there was a reusable or washable face mask related search every second on the platform over the past 30 days.

Teacher and school staff appreciation
Many parents usually opt to get teachers gifts towards the end of the school year, however the data shows parents are thinking about appreciation now. There’s been a 26 percent increase in searches for teacher gifts and a 27 percent increase in searches for school faculty gifts in the last month (when compared with the same time last year).

As parents figure out alternative and at-home learning solutions, in the last month Etsy has seen a 131 percent increase in searches for desks and desk accessories. Searches for homeschool planners have also increased by 216 percent, while searches for learning charts have increased by 68 percent and searches for periodic tables have increased by 31 percent. (This is all compared to the same time last year.)
