TOMY Recalls Over 80,000 of Its Popular Highchairs
Highchairs have evolved over the years to be not only a functional addition to your home but a stylish one. But recently, the popular brand TOMY has made headlines after having to recall over 83,000 of its Boon Flair and Flair Elite Highchairs. Here’s what you need to know.
Why are the Boon Flair and Flair Elite Highchairs being recalled?
In cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) TOMY has issued a voluntary recall of its Boon Flair and Flair Elite Highchairs. The brand estimates about 83,000 highchairs in the US are affected by the recall, with an additional 2,850 sold in Canada.
According to the recall, the bolts used to secure the seat of the chair to the pedestal base can become loose and allow the seat to detach, posing a fall hazard. TOMY has received 34 reports of the chair separating from the base, including 24 falls resulting in 11 injuries such as bruising or scratches.
How do I know if my highchair is affected by the recall?
The affected Boon Flair and Flair Elite Highchairs were sold at Bed Bath & Beyond, Target, Toys ‘R’ Us, and other stores nationwide and online at Amazon.com, Target.com, Walmart.com, and BedBathAndBeyond.com. The recall includes all Boon Flair Elite highchairs and Boon Flair models sold between January 2008 and February 2017.
If you are concerned you may have purchased a recalled highchair you can confirm whether or not it falls under the recall by checking the model number and manufacturing date code printed on a label located under the base of the highchair. The recalled model numbers are listed on TOMY’s website at Recall.TOMY.com.
What should I do if my highchair is a part of the recall?
The CPSC advises parents to stop using affected highchairs and contact TOMY for a free repair kit. Consumers will receive a set of bolts and split and flat washers to repair the recalled highchair. You can see how to submit a request for a free repair kit at US.TOMY.com.
