Of course, while all the Mother’s Day gift ideas on this list are winners (if we do say so ourselves), there may be nothing more special, more sentimental and more heartfelt than a gift made with your (or your kids’) own hands. That’s why we’re also including a list of DIY Mother’s Day gifts, all of which are (relatively) easy and affordable. All they cost is your time, and really, who deserves it more than Mom?
Breakfast in Bed
As far as homemade Mother’s Day gifts go, breakfast in bed is always a pretty solid bet—especially if the little ones lend a hand! (Or, at the very least, they can do the delivering.) Try waffles, freshly squeezed OJ and some strawberries with whipped cream. Actually, can we come too?
Moms famously adore flowers, so you know what one might like even more? A full garden of flowers! Just make sure someone is helping the kids out with this one, before one too many mudpies make their way into the backyard. (Alternative for an apartment: a flower box to hang out the window or a potted plant for inside the house, planted by mama’s little munchkin with love.)
Looking for classic DIY Mother’s Day gifts? You can’t forget a painted pottery piece! While you can do it at home, you can also go to a local ceramic painting shop, like Color Me Mine, that’ll provide you with all the materials and even glaze your piece for you.
Got a little one at home who loves to bead? Have them make Mom an upgraded version of the Best Friend Bracelet: the Best Mom Ever Keychain. All you need is a key loop, thick string, letter beads and a few other embellishments (artist’s choice!).
Another relatively easy one for DIY Mother’s Day gifts? A photo book, customized with pictures of the whole family. You can put together an affordable one at your local photo store (or online at Shutterfly, Mixbook Photo Co. or Chatbooks). If you have little crafters at home, you could alternatively let them put it together themselves. With construction paper, glue and yarn, it could be done in a cinch.
Hire a sitter on Care.com and whisk Mom away on a well-deserved date. This present will mean even more if she’s usually the one who plans outings.
