Mayda

Mayda is a girl's name of English origin, meaning "maiden," and also the title given to a non-existent island in the North Atlantic Ocean. Represented by a crescent shape, the island of Mayda appeared on several early maps dating back to 1367. Its position varied over time, once closer to the southwest of Ireland and later towards the Americas. Submerged land fitting its crescent shape was found in the area located on one early map at a depth of 20 fathoms, or 120 feet. This suggests that the island of Mayda may indeed have existed.
