Princesa is a girl’s name of Spanish origin that comes from the word princesa, meaning “princess.” While Princesa might seem fitting for any mini-monarch, it was actually a popular name for Spanish Navy ships in the 18th century. Spanish naval officer Juan Francisco de la Bodega y Quadra also commandeered his vessel, La Princesa, in an effort to capture British explorer James Cook in Spanish waters.
