Country singer Waylon Jennings died in 2002, but he made his mark—and not just with his music. His first name also made an impression on parents. After officially naming him Wayland, his mom came up with Waylon, and the name just stuck. Wayland came about from the German name Wieland, which the English turned into Weland and then eventually Wayland. After peaking in the 1980s and then faltering the next decade, this Western-flavored name took an upward turn in popularity after Jennings' death.
