A year and a half ago, he took over Gotham City. And next month, he’s taking over the big screen.
The trailer for Batkid Begins was just released, chronicling the story of Miles Scott — also known as Batkid — a leukemia survivor whose Make a Wish journey went viral.
The then-five-year-old Miles had one wish: to be the real Batman. After his treatment wrapped up, his parents and the folks at the Make a Wish Foundation teamed up to help him become the next best thing: Batman’s sidekick, Batkid. That way, an actor would be his buddy for the day, helping him “fight crime” in San Francisco, which was transformed into Gotham City. But nobody involved anticipated that thousands of people would help the day feel so realistic for Miles.
Thanks to a Make a Wish volunteer who posted about the event on Facebook and Twitter, the news of Batkid went viral. Celebrities, including President Obama, reached out to lend their support. Thousands lined the streets of San Francisco, cheering Batkid on as he tackled each of the staged crimes and villains.
Deemed “the feel good story of the year,” the whole thing was made into a documentary. Don’t miss the trailer below. Batkid Begins will premiere in select theaters on June 26, and expand nationwide in July.
