Mom With Rare Double Uterus Is Expecting a Baby in Each

In a 1 in 50 million chance, Kelsey Hatcher was surprised to learn that she was expecting two baby girls—one in each uterus. Due to her unique condition, the girls may arrive at the same time, hours or weeks apart.

Every pregnancy is special, but Kelsey Hatcher’s double pregnancy might just take the cake!

Hatcher, who was born with two uteri, was already the mom of three when she discovered she wasn’t just pregnant with one this time around but two, with a baby in each of her uteri. In an interview with Today the Alabama mom recalled the shock and surprise of the first conversation she had with her husband. “I said, ‘Well, there’s two of them in there.’ And he said, ‘You’re lying.’ I said, ‘No, I’m not.’’

“A double cervix or double uterus is way under 1 percent, maybe three per 1,000 women might have that,” Dr. Richard Davis, a professor in the UAB division of maternal-fetal medicine explained to Today. “And then the probability of you having a twin in each horn is really crazy.”

Since finding out the big news, the Hatchers have been documenting Kelsey’s exciting pregnancy under the Instagram @doubleuhatchlings. Throughout the pregnancy, both babies have been healthy and developing normally. The real high-risk portion of Hatcher’s one-in-a-million pregnancy will come as she goes into labor. Whether or not her uteri start contractions at the same or different times will determine if her daughters are born at the same time or apart, separated by hours, days or even weeks.

Just shy of 34 weeks, Hatcher excitedly shared on November 1 that all things were still a go for a medicated natural delivery and no cesarean! That being said, the expectant mom asked for four prayer requests. “1. That we can make it to a delivery date that allows babies to be safe and have minimal to no NICU stay. 2. That our birth plan goes as we hope and there are no surprises or hiccups. 3. Safety for all 3 of us as we navigate the unknown with the doctors. 4. And my selfish request, that they are born in December,” she wrote.

Our best to Hatcher and her whole family as she welcomes her daughters this winter!
