While the jury is still out on why pregnancy cravings can happen, most pregnant people will tell you they’re no joke. One food item that the American Pregnancy Association (APA) says is often on the top of the craving list? Ice cream. While delicious, ice cream may not consist of the best nutritional profile for pregnancy. Luckily, the APA has crowned one brand as the best, most nutritious ice cream on the market for expectant women.

Nightfood, Inc. is an ice cream company that was developed with nighttime snacking in mind. Formulated by sleep experts (including the famed Sleep Doctor), it boasts less sugar, fat and calories; more protein and fiber; and added minerals, digestive enzymes and amino acids. Plus, it comes in flavors like Midnight Chocolate and Cookies N’ Dreams.

“Over 130,000 visitors daily turn to the APA website for information about pregnancy health, nutrition, preparing for the birth experience, naming their baby, and more. We’re thrilled to be able to recommend Nightfood for those cravings that inevitably hit for most women,” APA President Lynn Handley stated in a news release. “With more protein, fiber, calcium, magnesium, and less sugar, fewer calories, and with ingredients to tackle nighttime heartburn, Nightfood is a more nutritionally appropriate ice cream for pregnant women than anything we’ve ever seen on the market, based on recommendations from The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, The Mayo Clinic, and general expert consensus on prenatal nutrition.”

“As consumers across the country have been learning about and embracing Nightfood, we noticed an increase in social media posts from pregnant women,” Nightfood CEO Sean Folkson also stated in the release. “Consulting with our experts, we discovered that our unique formulation, among all other ice creams on the market, best aligns with the specific nutritional needs women have during pregnancy. The American Pregnancy Association agrees, and now Nightfood is formally recommended as the single most appropriate ice cream for moms-to-be and their cravings.”

So, where can we find the APA-recommended ice cream brand? It’s available on BuyNightfood.com, as well as select grocery stores.

“With ice cream being pretty much synonymous with pregnancy cravings, I think it’s great that there’s finally an ice cream brand that I can confidently recommend to my patients,” Dr. Jill Hechtman, MD, FACOG OB/GYN stated in the release. “Nutrition and sleep play an important role in every pregnancy.”
