Viral Video Speaks to the Power of a Postpartum Village

Postpartum hormone changes, healing after birth and little to no sleep can make the first few weeks after bringing baby home a mix of magical and ridiculously hard. During these tough times, having a village to help and support you can be a game changer.

One mom recently went viral after sharing a heartfelt video documenting the little ways her community showed up to help her in the days after she brought home her baby. Using footage from the Ring video camera on her porch, Amanda Wells or @honeyathome on TikTok, stitched together the lovely video with the phrase “Watch my village show up after bringing home my newborn.” written at the top. In the caption, she added, “Cant thank them enough for coming together and helping us adjust to our new life as parents…and for all the food.”

In the 24-second video, Wells’ support system comes and goes, bringing food, balloons, soda, supplies and even at one point, shoveling the snow off her sidewalk. Quickly proving that while each individual may seem small, together they weave a heartfelt story of support.

Since posting the video to TikTok, Wells’ video has amassed more than 15 million views. Users from around the world sounded off in the comments with their support. “God bless that whole freaking village,” wrote one user. “The village is really one of the most important necessities for parenting society sleep on. So happy you have this! And may it continue PAST INFANCY!” added another.

Other added their wish for their own village that would be just as supportive. “This made me cry. What I’d do to have this support.,” wrote one user. Another added, “Can I get a village on Amazon?”

Whether you are expecting a village, big or small, to show up after you welcome your child, this video reminds us that caring and being there for others is always needed and appreciated more than you know.
