'Riverdale' fans know Veronica as Archie’s high school pal in the TV series that takes its cue from the classic comic strip 'Archie'. But the name Veronica didn’t get its start from the comics: In the 17th century, a saint and mystic named Veronica was said to have offered Jesus a cloth to wipe his face as he faltered toward crucifixion. She was left with a "true image” of Jesus's face on the cloth. Though Veronica's popularity has dropped from its peak in the 1970s and 1980s, it's still a lovely name with ladylike appeal.
