You can’t bring baby home from the hospital without it. You wouldn’t dare drive until it’s properly installed. Yet in spite of how essential a car seat is for new parents, not all of them can afford one. That’s why The Bump is proud to be teaming up with Buckle Up for Life throughout the month of September—Baby Safety Month—to donate up to 5,000 car seats to families who need them.

Here’s how it works: For every new baby registry created through The Bump in September, Buckle Up for Life, the national car seat safety program from Cincinnati Children’s and Toyota, will donate a car seat to a family in need—up to 5,000. Plus, they’ll work with recipients to make sure each seat is installed correctly, helping to lower the statistic that three out of every four seats are improperly installed.

This initiative also aims to help parents avoid one of the most common car seat mistakes: buying or borrowing second-hand. Yep, car seats have expiration dates since the plastic can degrade.

Just give us a follow, tag a friend in the comments and create a registry. Stay tuned for the winners, who will be announced on Oct. 4 on Instagram.
