These Are Etsy’s Hottest Kids’ Trends for 2020—and You Can Shop Them Now

From a resurgence of 90s trends to camera-ready nurseries, here are the hottest trends on Etsy for 2020.

Etsy has released their 2020 Kids’ Trend Guide—and it shows that, among other things, trends from the 90s are back!

The guide is based off of Etsy’s search data from the past three months and shows that 90s’ inspired crafts, upgraded playrooms and camera-ready nursery decor, among others, are rising as trends this year. Largely, this is due to creating a lively environment for kids at home as we all spend more time at home due to COVID-19.

Below, the top kids’ trends on Etsy, along with products you can shop for each.

90s Nostalgia

Tie-dye has, unsurprisingly, increased in popularity, with the site reporting a 318 percent increase in searches for kid’ tie-dye items. Daisy items also have an increased search by 66 percent, as do jump ropes (up 228 percent) and kids’ overalls (up 15 percent).

We’re all spending more time at home right now due to the pandemic, and parents are looking for ways to keep kids’ spaces entertaining. This year, Etsy has seen an increase in searches for climbing gyms (up 680 percent), playmats, (up 85 percent), bean bag chairs (up 145 percent), wall decor (up 71 percent) and school of fish items (up 37 percent).

Quiet Time

More and more parents have been carving out time for relaxation and self-care. The result? Increased searches for quiet time activities for kids, including books (up 198 percent). There is also a 164 percent increase in searches for yoga items for kids, a 158 percent increase in searches for kids puzzles and a 107 percent increase in searches for kids journals.

As many parents think of alternatives to screen time, Etsy has seen a spike in crafts, with searches for DIY kits up 336 percent, searches for kids sewing kits up 648 percent, searches for friendship bracelet kits up 692 percent and searches for kids paint by number kits up 2,575 percent.

With virtual introductions to newborns becoming the new normal for many, parents have been emphasizing show-stoppers into their nursery spaces. Searches for nursery buntings or garlands have jumped 81 percent, nursery mobiles searches have jumped 49 percent and nursery wall stickers and decals searches have jumped 6 percent on Etsy.

Kids are starting to become more involved in daily household chores, whether that includes helping to dry the dishes, bake a cake, cook a meal or clean the house. So far, there’s been a 247 percent increase in searches for Montessori towers, a 118 percent increase in searches for kids step stool, and a 43 percent increase in searches on Etsy for chore charts.
