It’s cute, it’s quirky, it’s the internet’s furriest, most favorite companion—it’s Labubu! And, needless to say, the internet is obsessed. That’s right—with a colorful coat, tall ears and a toothy grin that can only mean mischief (don’t worry, it’s the playful kind!), the viral toy has captured the hearts of collectors all over TikTok and social media. And while the world still hasn’t fully wrapped its head around why these adorable little monsters are so “in” right now, the rage continues, as stores across the globe sell out left, right and center.

But what even is a Labubu? And why all the hype? And what does baby’s future name have to do with it?! Read on to find out!

What Are Labubus?

If you aren’t up to speed on the newest TikTok niche, we know what you might be thinking—Labu-who? But to sum it up, Labubus are collectible dolls sold by the China-based toy seller Pop Mart in blind-box style (in other words, you never know which Labubu you’re going to get until you open the packaging). Characterized by big, round eyes, a button nose and a cartoonish, snaggle-toothed smile (which should have exactly nine teeth, FYI—or else you might have a “Lafufu” or a fake on your hands), they owe their iconic ugly-cute look to Hong Kong artist and creator Kasing Lung, who took design inspiration from Nordic folklore and mythology.

There isn’t just one type of Labubu, either. In fact, there are three themed series currently topping the Pop Mart charts—Labubu “Exciting Macaron,” Labubu “Have a Seat” and Labubu “Big into Energy,” each with its own set of Labubu characters with theme-specific features (like tie-dye fur or sparkly eyes for the “Big into Energy” series) and, more importantly, the cutest names ever.

Despite what the current popularity surge would have you believe, Labubus have actually been around for some time now. They debuted in 2015 as children’s book characters before eventually becoming the blind-box trinkets we now know and love. But it wasn’t until K-pop star Lisa of BLACKPINK promoted them on her Instagram—not to mention the rise of the bag-charm trend—that these pocket-size plushies took off on social media.

Now everyone, from celebrities to influencers to those who are just plain curious, is in on the multimillion-dollar collectibles craze—and the rest is, well, Labubu history.

10 Labubu Names and Nicknames for Baby

It isn’t every day you call your little one after a toy-turned-online-sensation. But with so many fun and unique options to choose from, Labubu names have become the epitome of baby-name (and nickname) bliss. And where there’s inspiration, we want to weigh in!

So here it is—our list of the sweetest-ever Labubu character names to consider for your new La-baby, plus their charming meanings. Perfect—not just for dedicated Pop Mart fans—but expectant parents who love a little whimsy on their name search too.

1. Coco

Some names are sweet enough to eat—and that can certainly be said about a name like Coco. Inspired by the famous Sea Salt Coconut Labubu from the “Exciting Macaron” series, this moniker is short, playful and all kinds of cute, with meanings like “darling” and “smiling face” that make it just as delightful as the baby-blue (or gray—but that’s up for debate) Bubu itself.

2. Baba

According to fans, Baba—depending on the Chinese characters—may or may not mean “eager,” which makes total sense when you think about the plushie’s wide-eyed, puppy-like expression. Maybe Baba is a nickname you’re already using, but knowing what it might mean (in the context of this “Have a Seat” Labubu, anyway) gives you one more reason to be excited about it.

3. Love

As The Beatles once famously sang, “All you need is love.” But when it comes to Labubus, we don’t just mean that warm, fuzzy feeling everyone craves. With blush-pink fur and fiery eyes to match, Love is easily one of the most coveted members of the Labubu “Big into Energy” series. As for the name? No further explanation needed!

4. Sisi

What’s in a Labubu name? A whole lot of meaning! And Sisi—famed for its butter-yellow “Have a Seat” Labubu namesake—has plenty to explore while you figure out a moniker for your mini-you. Our personal favorites include “sweet” and “small,” which many fans believe originate from Chinese characters. But there’s always “Sunday-born” in the Fante language of Ghana, if you like—and “God’s promise” from Hebrew translations too!

5. Serenity

From Grace to Faith to Verity, everyone loves a virtue name—and having a Labubu to share it with is even better. That’s where Serenity, another beloved character from the “Big into Energy” series, comes into play. With a lush green coat and a doting smile, it represents peace and calm. The meanings behind Serenity (the moniker) are just as soothing, so if there’s any Labubu name that’ll bring good vibes, this is the one.

6. Zizi

First, there’s Sisi, then there’s Zizi—and this lovely little number joins the roundup as one of our favorite Labubu “Have a Seat” names and characters. Although Zizi is widely considered a nickname for—and a variation of—Elizabeth, Labubu fans like to think of it as the abbreviation of a Mandarin phrase that supposedly translates to “happy,” “elated” or “content.” Definitely fitting for the most chillaxed-looking Bubu in the bunch.

7. Hope

Let’s face it—getting your hands on a Labubu is a marathon. And plenty of collectors know what it’s like to wait months and months for another restock. But before you panic, let Hope (and the “Big into Energy” Bubu that inspired the name!) remind you there’s always a light at the end of the Pop Mart tunnel. All it takes is a little persistence!

8. Dada

There’s only one heart-eyed Labubu in the entire “Have a Seat” series, and that’s the world-famous Dada. Labubu fans say its name comes from Chinese characters that translate to “shy” or “bashful.” Dada might not be the first name you think of for a newborn in the US, but if your Labubu has it, who says your La-baby can’t?

9. Fortune

Feeling lucky? We’ve got just the Labubu name for you. Fortune, meaning “good luck” in Latin, is inspired by the “Wings of Fortune” and “Walk by Fortune” Labubus—and, unlike those in the “Exciting Macaron,” “Have a Seat” and “Big into Energy” series, these little guys were created as one-off, special-edition characters. Fortune’s rarity as a name and collectible makes it all the more appealing—so if you’re on the lookout for something unique but still very Labubu, here’s where you’ll find it!

10. Duoduo

Snagging a classic Labubu is one thing. But unboxing a “Secret”? That’s every collector’s dream. So we couldn’t end this list without giving the ultra-rare Duoduo from the “Have a Seat” series a shoutout for its name. The chances of getting a hold of this Bubu are super, super-slim, at one blind box in every 72. But, if anything, that just makes a name like Duoduo the perfect fit for your super-unique and priceless little one.
