Vanderpump Rules’ Lala Kent Shares Baby No. 2's Name
Lala Kent has finally shared her newborn’s name!
The Vanderpump Rules star posted a black-and-white photo of her daughter’s feet on September 9 with the simple caption “Sosa Kent.” A somewhat rare gender-neutral name, Sosa traces its roots back to Portugal, where it’s meaning is connected to the sea, roughly translating to “from the salt water.” The name falls perfectly in line with her older daughter Ocean’s name, something Kent had planned from the beginning.
Last week, Kent joked on her Give Them Lala podcast that she had kept her daughter’s name under wraps for a few extra days out of respect for Beyoncé. “Today is Beyoncé’s birthday. September 4 is her day,” Kent said during the episode. “We can’t announce today…No one’s gonna give a s—. It’s Beyoncé’s birthday! I’m gonna wait. Baby S gets her moment.”
The Mama’s Still Got It star shared the big news on her Instagram story on September 4. “Welcome into the world, my love,” she wrote in white text across a black background. “9.3.24” she added in the bottom right corner. While Kent has yet to share other details about her newborn, earlier this year she revealed her second child would be a girl.
“Now that I have revealed I’m having a baby girl, seen her sweet little profile and my bump is bumpin, I’m feeling an overwhelming amount of love & gratitude. This journey has been incredibly empowering & I’m so thankful for the outpour of support,” she wrote in an Instagram post shortly after her simple cake sex reveal.
Kent first shared that she was expecting in early March. “I’m expanding my pod,” she captioned a photo of her daughter and her bump. The announcement just a month after the reality TV star opened up to Cosmopolitan about her plan to take her family’s future into her own hands with intrauterine insemination (IUI) — a treatment where sperm is surgically placed in a uterus to fertilize an egg.
Kent has been through quite the series of ups and downs over the past few years and recently decided she would go through the process single with a donor. “I had my life go in a very different direction, I knew I wanted more kids,” she shared. “It was such a strange thing that was happening because everyone would tell me, ‘You’re going to find somebody.’ And I got to thinking, Why does my wanting more children need to involve another person? I think if there’s a will, there’s a way. I knew a donor was an option, and I knew IUI was an option.”
Kent hopes her journey inspires others to not wait to chase after their dreams of a family. “If you want children and are only waiting for “that person” to come into your life, let’s talk about a different route that we can take. It’s 2024! There are many ways to have a baby, and you don’t need a man to do it.”
Kent, who picked her donor via the California Cryobank, also wanted to clear away the stigma on choosing a donor and the donation process itself. “I feel like you think of a sperm donor and you’re like, Oh, they were hard up for cash. I get emotional talking about it because this donor has changed my life. These men who come in and donate, whatever the reason, are giving these people the greatest gift,” she said.
“It’s definitely not the same as finding a man and being in a whirlwind romance and creating a child, but if you can find a way to make it warm and bring your family or your friends into it, it can make it an equally incredible experience,” she shared.
Our best to Kent and her happy family of three!
