Golfer Scottie Scheffler Takes His Baby’s On-Air Blowout in Stride
After clinching his second straight Memorial Tournament win, world No. 1-ranked golfer Scottie Scheffler didn’t just walk off the green with a trophy, but with a bit of a surprise.
As the cameras rolled and applause rang out, Scheffler’s wife, Meredith, handed him their 12-month-old son, Bennett, and gave him the kind of update no parent ever wants, much less on live TV: “He’s got poop all over his back so be prepared — sorry!,” Meredith said passing Bennett over with a warning. Without missing a beat, the calm and collected champ simply replied, “That’ll happen.”
Carrying Bennett—noticeably stained onesie and all—into the victor’s circle, Scheffler reflected on the support he receives from Meredith. “My wife is my biggest supporter; she’s my best friend,” he told Golf on CBS, cradling his son in one arm. Glancing down at the toddler, he smiled and added, “I definitely couldn’t do it without her.”
Parents, caregivers, and golf fans alike couldn’t get enough of the viral moment. “He just went up a few notches in my book lol. Veteran dad reaction,” one commenter wrote. Another chimed in: “The amount of people asking why he wasn’t changed… Have you ever had a baby? If it happened 30 seconds before the win, I wouldn’t miss that walk either!” One mom chimed in to applaud the real parenting moment, "I’m so proud of her for not missing the moment. Her little one was just fine and so happy to see his parents in their element!“
The Schefflers welcomed Bennett on May 13, 2024, and the little one has already become a familiar (and adorable) face on the golf course. From lounging in the FedEx Cup at just 3 months old to donning the tiniest caddie outfit at the Masters Par 3 contest, Bennett’s been cheering on Dad in style. “Memories made. Safe to say I think Bennett had fun at his first Par 3 contest,” Scheffler captioned a post featuring his family of three at the tournament.
