When actress Angelina Jolie wanted to honor her French heritage after giving birth to a girl in 2008, she and Brad Pitt named their baby Vivienne, the French version of Vivian. Comedian Rosie O’Donnell also said "oui" to the name for her daughter in 2002. Vivian was originally a male name and a favorite of French parents during the Middle Ages who named their children after the virtuous St. Vivian, but the name still resonates with parents who like the idea of going old school when deciding what to call their babies (although for girls instead).
