This 4-Year-Old Is Pissed That Jasmine Waited for Aladdin to See the World
Madison Jade is not happy about the storyline in Aladdin.
The classic Disney film is the latest to get a live-action reboot. After the spunky 4-year-old viewed the flick, she didn’t hold back her major eye-rolling over the story’s plot. While in the car presumably on the way home from seeing the movie, her mom films her letting out her frustrations over the way things went down.
Her mom asks her noticeably upset daughter whether Jasmine should have waited for Aladdin or not. “No,” the little girl exclaims, while disapprovingly shaking her head. “She had to go by herself…to see the world.”
Madison Jade then adds some pretty convincing arguments to get her point across. “Aladdin needs to just stay there, and Jasmine can just go by herself,” she says. “Because you don’t need a boy to take you to see the whole world.”
While Disney’s latest installments have featured empowering female heroines—Tiana, Merida, Elsa, Anna and Moana—historically, it hasn’t always been the case. Aladdin is one of many of the franchise’s films to feature a princess waiting to be saved by her prince. Classics they may be, but, as is clear by Madison Jade’s viral video, they’re a bit out of touch with the times. The girl power movement has never been stronger, and we’re now raising our girls to know they can chase their own adventures.
As Madison Jade says: “There’s not enough space on the carpet.”
