Navigating a child’s peanut allergy isn’t easy. Between shared snacks, hidden ingredients and home-baked treats, it can feel exhausting to stay on top of it all. Thankfully, the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act requires known allergens (like peanuts) to be clearly listed on food labels, giving parents some peace of mind when it comes to packaged products. But sometimes, a simple labeling mix-up can lead to serious concerns.

Ritz Crackers recently issued a recall in coordination with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for several cartons of its Ritz Cracker Sandwiches. While the outer cartons correctly state that they contain Peanut Butter or Variety Pack crackers, some of the individual snack packs inside were incorrectly labeled as Cheese but actually contain peanut butter. Once removed from the carton, these mislabeled Cheese packs may appear peanut free, posing a potential risk to those with peanut allergies.

So far, there have been no reported injuries or illnesses related to the mislabeling. However, the brand is voluntarily recalling the following products with the listed best by dates printed on the top of the carton:

  • 11.4 oz. RITZ Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwiches- 8 Count. Best by dates: 1 NOV 25 - 9 NOV 25, “AE” Plant Code Only
  • 27.6 oz. RITZ Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwiches- 20 Count. Best by dates: 1 NOV 25 - 9 NOV 25 or 2 JAN 26 - 22 JAN 26, “AE” Plant Code Only
  • 55.2 oz. RITZ Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwiches– 40 Count. Best by dates: 1 NOV 25 - 9 NOV 25 or 2 JAN 26 - 22 JAN 26, “AM” Plant Code Only
  • 27.3 oz. RITZ Filled Cracker Sandwich 20-Count Variety Pack. Best by dates: 2 NOV 25 – 9 NOV 25, “RJ” Plant Code Only

Mislabeled individual snack packs may have the below Best By Dates and labeling on the side:

  • Product Description: RITZ Cheese Cracker Sandwiches (1.38oz. pack)
  • Retail UPC: 0 44000 00211 4
  • Best When Used By Dates: 1 NOV 25 – 9 NOV 25 or 2 JAN 26 – 22 JAN 26, “AE” Plant Code Only

If someone in your household has a peanut allergy and you’ve purchased any of the above products, discard them immediately. You can reach out to Ritz Crackers at 1-844-366-1171 and visit FDA.gov for information about the recall.
