Perhaps you’re planning a virtual baby shower due to COVID-19 concerns. Or maybe you’ve just recognized it as a great way to include family and friends who live far away. Either way, the secret to throwing a fun online baby shower is to keep your guests tuned in and engaged. The best way to do that? With virtual baby shower games. Below, check out some of our favorite Zoom baby shower games, as well as some considerations to keep in mind.

Things to Consider When Planning Virtual Baby Shower Games

As you’re brainstorming which online baby shower games to play, keep in mind that many popular baby shower games can easily be adapted for a virtual event. Plus, if you’re looking to keep a low budget, you can actually make a lot of the games yourself using programs like Word or Google Documents (think quizzes, word searches, anagrams, etc.). If you’d rather opt for printable digital downloads, there are plenty of options from retailers like Etsy and Amazon. (Many of these games also come in bundles and often retail for less than $10.)

Whether you make the games yourself or digitally download them, be sure to share them with your guests ahead of time. You can send the game files via email, dropbox or drop a link to the downloads during the virtual event. However, Amanda Williams of Boutique Event Planners recommends sending your guests a package with all the printed games (and other supplies) they’ll need for the shower. “Everybody likes to get something in the mail. For these virtual events, it’s really fun when hosts send little gift boxes to each one of their guests that include the games,” Williams says. “It’s nice to have a tangible item and a game for people to play at their home.”

If you want to keep up the tradition of baby shower game prizes, also be sure to prepare small e-gift cards to popular stores like Amazon and Target to give out to each winner during or after the shower.

Wondering just how many games you might need to keep the party going? Williams suggests playing no more than two, as virtual events tend to be shorter. Luckily, there are plenty of virtual baby shower games that are quick, engaging and simple to put together. Check them out below.

Match That Baby

Mix and match games are always a crowd-pleaser. For the game, come up with a list of mom and baby pairings. (Swan and cygnet, platypus and puggle, horse and colt, you get the idea.) Then create two separate lists with the pairings out of order and have your guests match them. The best part about this game? It comes with several different theme options. Choose animal-themed lists, Disney mom and baby pairings or celebrity parents and their kids.

Never Have I Ever: the Parent Edition

This option is free and offers lots of entertainment. To play, have everyone hold up 5 or 10 fingers, and then go around and have each person list something they’ve never done as a parent or parent-to-be. (For example: “Never have I ever dealt with a diaper blowout” or “Never did I ever crave something salty during pregnancy.”) (If you’re struggling to come up with some statements, you can always download a list.) It’s bound to be an instant hit among your guests. You may even find out some funny facts about your loved ones!

This popular virtual baby shower game is typically an instant hit—and there are plenty of baby tunes to choose from! Ready for a bit of nostalgia? This online coed baby shower game asks guests to guess the age of the parents-to-be in pictures. To play this virtually, create a presentable slideshow of the couple as kids, in their early years of dating and with loved ones. Have everyone guess how old they were in the photos. (If the parents-to-be aren’t involved in the planning, this is a good opportunity to sneak in those baby photos!)

Baby-Themed Mad Libs

Few games can get a group of people bursting into laughter like Mad Libs. Come up with a fill-in-the-blank paragraph (or download one) and then write a list of the parts of speech each person will have to come up with (i.e. verb, adjective, noun, etc.). Have each guest fill out the list and then go around and have everyone read the paragraph with their word choices. We guarantee it’ll lead to a jolly good time.
