Origin:Greek
Meaning:To rule, command; To cut
Cronus is a boy’s name of Greek origin, meaning “to rule” and “command” or “to cut.” Cronus was the youngest of the Greek Titans, the son of Gaia, Mother Earth, and Uranus, Father Sky. Cronus, often spelled Kronos or Cronos, would eat his children out of fear of being overthrown, but Rhea, his consort, was able to smuggle his son Zeus away to safety. Cronus ruled over the earth until he was defeated and imprisoned by Zeus, who took over his role as ruler. Cronus was also made to disgorge his other children, which included Hades, Poseidon, and Demeter, before being banished to Tartarus. Despite this, Cronus's rule was said to be a golden age on earth. One thing is for sure, though—with a name like this, baby Cronus is sure to feel in charge of whatever environment they end up in.
