Maurine

Maurine is a girl’s name deriving from the Latin name Mary, meaning “star of the sea.” Maurine may be a variant spelling of the Irish name Maureen, which is a diminutive of Mary. This elegant spelling has a French feel to it, and is in fact almost identical to the name of a pretty French village called Maurines. Another famous Maurine is Maurine Dallas Watkins, writer of the play Chicago, which was later adapted into a wildly successful musical and film.
