Royal Baby Names
Queen Marie of Romania was born October 29, 1875. After being forbidden to wed her first cousin, the future George V of Great Britain, she wed Ferdinand, the Crown Prince of Romania. Life in conservative Romania wasn’t easy for Marie, who was more of a free spirit. The marriage was shaky, and rumors swirled that the prince wasn’t the father of all six of Marie’s children. Just as World War I began, Ferdinand became king, spurring Marie to support Romania and give her all to charitable work. She was a charming but fierce political force at the Paris Peace Conference after the war ended.
