Chrissy Teigen Is Normalizing Leaking Through Everything Postpartum
Chrissy Teigen is normalizing yet another “not so picture-perfect” part of motherhood—postpartum leaking. Just a little over a week after giving birth to baby Esti Maxine via c-section, the social media sensation shared a photo of herself in a black silk dress to Instagram, complete with wet spots from breast milk leakage.
Sporting a tan hat, heeled boots and a much-needed cup of iced coffee, Teigen captioned the post, “[On my way] to bandage together both my wound and 3.8 second clips of Beyonce performing in Dubai until I get a full HBO special.”
Parents from all over the world popped into the comments to thank Teigen for proudly flaunting the realities of postpartum life. “Love that you are normalizing leaking through everything in the first weeks postpartum. You wake up at night and you’re like ‘Is it pee? Is it milk? Or is it sweat?’ So many body fluid options,” one mom joked. “The milk spots add an extra layer of authenticity to this,” another added.
Many moms sympathized with Teigen and shared their own stories of breast milk leakage and on-the-go solutions. “I didn’t have my nursing pads with me at work, once…so I stuck regular menstrual pads in my bra. Worked perfectly and were great to have as a backup, for times I forgot to bring the washable ones,” one user wrote.
Other women celebrated ditching nursing pads altogether and embracing the mess, “I’m so glad women now have the freedom to acknowledge…not hide,” added one follower, while another joked, “I remember it like it was yesterday, leaking from both boobs and my healing c-section incision. Ol’ juicy lucys just doing our best.”
But just one glimpse at baby’s face makes what one commentator referred to as the “soggy stage” beyond worth it. Teigen recently shared an adorable close-up of sleeping baby Esti melting hearts around the world. “Look at you out here looking like a baby,” she joked in the caption.
