Fitness Influencer Shuts Down Fans Accusing Her of Photoshopping Postpartum Body
Loving your postpartum body—stretch marks and all—is crucial once baby arrives. Sometimes the body changes are temporary, and other times they’re permanent. And no two women ever have the same exact experience.
After personal trainer Emily Skye faced criticism from fans claiming she photoshops her postpartum body in some of her Instagram posts, the fitness guru responded with side-by-side photos, because, as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words.
“Saggy, wrinkly belly skin—sometimes you can see it and other times you can’t,” Skye explains.
Depending on the light, angle and way she is posing, the stretch marks don’t always show. But whether you seem them or not, it makes no difference to the popular influencer. She loves her post-baby body all the same.
“A lot of ladies have been asking where it’s gone in some of my [pictures] and videos, and some have accused [me] of photoshopping it out,” she says. “I just wanted to show that how I stand, whether I’m flexing and what light I’m in, either highlights my excess belly skin or hides it! And I don’t mind either way, which is why I post both.”
Contrary to what many assume, the mom is proud of her stretch marks. Since giving birth to her daughter in December 2017, she’s been pretty open about her postpartum body, often sharing snapshots of herself. In fact, days after giving birth, Skye took to Instagram to candidly share how she still looks “about six months or so pregnant.”
“Is it weird that I’m actually proud of it? I’m proud of what it represents, I guess. I grew a human in this belly, and the whole process into motherhood has made me so much stronger and also so much more confident in myself and my body,” the mom says. “I couldn’t care less whether the stretched skin stays or goes! It’s such an insignificant thing in my eyes.”
Truer words have never been spoken. Skye leaves her fans with one important note: “Nobody is perfect, and having some extra skin, stretch marks, cellulite or whatever else doesn’t make you any less beautiful or amazing.”
Now, there’s an idea we can all get on board with.
